St. Francis College Prep . . . A Vision for Something Far Better . . .

The only thing worse than being blind is having sight but no vision.    Helen Keller

If anyone could tell us what is worse than being blind, it would be well-known author and activist, Helen Keller. Her words are and should be convicting. Why?

Scripture answers: Where there is no vision, the people perish.   Proverbs 29:18

That is why St. Francis College Prep has a very intentional vision for its students: “A tradition of faith, learning and leadership for the benefit of mankind”.

St. Francis places “faith” at the foundation of it vision. Faith is what answers the ultimate question — why we exist. We exist to have a relationship with the Lord. This includes loving and serving others as He has loved and served. Without this simple but immensely profound understanding, all education becomes a misguided attempt to serve the idol of “self”.

St. Francis places “learning” at the center of its vision. Benjamin Franklin said, “Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.” We know that the only way to truly “teach” is to “involve” or “inspire” students. Force feeding standardized core curriculum is not teaching, and students are not learning. St. Francis will inspire students to be learners for life, rooted in their faith.

St. Francis places “leadership” at the zenith of its vision. Leadership author and mentor, John Maxwell says simply, “Leadership is influence.” In today’s lack-luster educational system St. Francis believes it is imperative to remember that our future is our students and we need our students to be leaders. We need leaders – people with influence – who understand the value of their faith, the importance of learning, and the need to replicate themselves far into the future.

Finally, St. Francis answers the question of “why” its vision is so critical – it is for the benefit of mankind. Which takes us back to our foundation, we exist to love and serve as our Lord has loved and served. And this is a far better vision for our leaders of tomorrow than what is being offered elsewhere today!
